CLSV: Glory To The Trevians, New Trier Wins Tennis Gold Again
Lesterhuis and Rothenberg claim doubles title.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK (Oct. 21-27)
How about a split for this honor. The New Trier doubles duo of Keri Rothenberg and Ariane Lesterhuis won state doubles gold with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Stevenson’s Abby Ma & Sophia Shlyakhta in the final.
TEAM OF THE WEEK (Oct. 21-27)
The New Trier Trevians girls tennis team claimed a state championship once again. Dominating on the court, New Trier had the team title wrapped up before the final day of the state championships. New Trier had 35 team points to 2nd-place Stevenson’s 20.Â
Ingrid Fielder finished 6th in first singles for the Trevians. As mentioned above, Rothenberg and Lesterhuis brought doubles gold to Winnetka. Ava Katz won 4 matches in singles. Coco Zabel and Julia Ludwig grabbed 4 doubles victories.Â

CSL STANDOUTSÂ
Soccer success
Vernon Hills boys soccer’s Ocho Finn tallied 2 goals in a regional semifinal victory over defending state champs Crystal Lake South. The Cougars went on to drop their regional final matchup with Prairie Ridge 4-2.Â
Evanston boys soccer claimed a regional title with a 4-0 victory against Niles North. The Wildkits face Lane Tech at New Trier on Tuesday in the sectional semis.

Maine South’s 1-0 victory over New Trier in the regional finals marked the Hawks’ first regional title in boys soccer since 2014. The Hawks next face Leyden in Tuesday’s sectional semis at New Trier.Â
Glenbrook South’s Michael Falk recorded a shutout in the goal as Glenbrook South boys soccer defeated Palatine 4-0 to win a 3A regional championship. They will play Glenbrook North — the Spartans beat Mundelein 3-1 for their own regional title — in the sectional semis at Stevenson on Tuesday.Â
Cross Country Kings and Queens
New Trier’s Josie Cahill (17:57.35) and Evanston’s Stella Davis (18:17.58) went 1-2 at Glenbrook South’s girls 3A cross country regional. GBN took 2nd as a team and New Trier was 3rd. (Meet results linked here)
CSL boys took the top 5 individual spots at GBS’ boys 3A regional.Â

The Trevians won the regional, while Evanston was 3rd, HP took 4th and Deerfield was 5th as each of those teams advanced to the sectional.Â
Maine South’s girls earned 3rd at the 3A Elk Grove regional, led by Sofia Arcuri (18:06.63) in 2nd.
Maine South was 3rd in the same regional for the boys, led by Owynn Garrelts in 2nd (15:5.87). Niles West advanced in 5th place.
Vernon Hills boys advanced from the Warren regional after taking 4th-place as a team, led by Bryant Lester in 5th as an individual (15:06.20).
Gridiron GuysÂ
Highland Park’s JT Killeen ran for 245 rushing yards, including a touchdown of 63 yards and Michael Bryant hit Spencer Auslander for a 4-yard touchdown pass with 16 seconds remaining in Highland Park’s 43-36 win over Vernon Hills (see the video of the winning score here). The Cougars’ Giuseppe Urso tiled 235 rushing yards and 3 scores.
Maine East’s Jaiden Whitehead had 129 rushing yards in a loss to Niles West. Okiki Olurotimi totaled 14 tackles and 2 TFLs in the loss.Â
State Tennis Standouts
Aside from New Trier’s successes at state, Glenbrook North’s Katelyn Wu fell in the state quarters.Â
Glenbrook South’s Sophia Denizov and Alexandra Papa won 4 times in doubles and fell in the consolation semis.Â
Highland Park’s Nadia Barbieri claimed 4 singles victories, including 3 in a row in the consolation bracket.Â
Maine South’s Emma Militaru and Kristina Nikolova won 4 times in doubles.Â
Deerfield’s Liza Gleyzer made her 4th appearance at state and won 3 singles matches.

Deerfield is the No. 15 seed in 6A and will play at Libertyville.
GRAD CATCHUPS
Evanston graduate Braelyn Viamille scored 2 goals in a 2-0 Florida International women’s soccer victory over UTEP.
As of Oct. 10, New Trier graduate Madison Liu, currently a freshman women’s tennis player at Boston University, had gone 6-2 in doubles competition and 9-1 in singles competition. Liu has played more competition since but stats were not updated on the Boston site.

Niles West is once again champions of the CSL North in volleyball after a 2nd consecutive 10-0 run in the division. Megan Burke had 11 kills in a victory over Resurrection. In a win over Niles North, Faith Blickhahn posted 9 kills and 10 blocks, while Maia Clair totaled 15 digs and 3 aces.Â
