CSL Varsity: GBS and Maine South Remain On Gridiron; Trevians Roll To Swim Title
Frum top CSL XC performer of sectional weekend; Crane leads Trevians to 3rd; Escasa POTW

FOOTBALL
Glenbrook South won a playoff game for a second consecutive season with a 40-7 home drubbing of Homewood-Flossmoor. Tommy McPherson had an INT, a rushing TD and a kick return for a TD. The Titans will play at Glenbard West Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Maine South shut down celebrated freshman quarterback Jonas Williams of Bolingbrook in a 24-0 Hawks home win Friday. Brady Marques won the football fan vote player of the week on Twitter after recording an interception and 2 sacks.
Maine South will play at unbeaten South Elgin Friday at 7 p.m.
St. Charles North handed Maine West a 47-10 defeat to end the Warriors’ season.
St. Ignatius handled Deerfield 48-21 to end the Warriors’ season at 6-4.
CROSS COUNTRY
Hoffman Estates Sectional
New Trier’s boys took third as a team at the Class 3A Hoffman Estates sectional to qualify for state. Ben Crane took 6th place overall for the Trevians to lead the way.
“I wanted to go out a little slower than I did,” Crane said. “We were all a little too aggressive for the first mile from what I heard after the race. I was leading at the 800, which was probably not the best race for me.”
Crane, who joined teammates Samuel Teppo (18th) and Oscar Dueno-Alda (20th) toward the top of the field, said much of the team ran similar to how they wanted to run, but didn’t get the results they were looking for.
“We did a little worse than we expected but we’re excited for next week and excited to go for top 3 at state,” Crane said.
Joining as an individual from the CSL was Nate Wehner of Highland Park (12th, 15:17.89).
Niles North’s Evan Parker fell just short of a qualifying spot, taking 36th place.
Juliet Frum’s second-place finish for the Glenbrook North girls in 16:53.21 was tops for CSL finishers at Busse Woods.

New Trier’s Josie Cahill qualified for state in 18th, while Glenbrook South’s Maggie Jortberg (25th) and freshman Kaitlyn Burns (29th) also qualified for state.
On the girls side, New Trier was 8th, falling short of qualifying as a squad.
Evanston’s Stella Davis took 34th, missing state by several spots.
Lake Park Sectional
Maine South’s boys squad took third as a team with 94 points, not far behind Wheaton Warrenville South’s first-place 88.
Alex Wille led the Hawks in 9th place with a time of 15:30.6
For the Maine South girls Olivia DeLuca was 10th in 18:11.3 to help Maine South finish 4th.
2A Deerfield Sectional
Dylan Cohen’s 3rd-place finish (15:22.71) for Deerfield assisted the Warriors in their 2nd-place finish, behind only Grayslake Central.
The Vernon Hills boys were 5th as a team, securing their spot as a squad at state.
Charles Blackmer was 8th overall in 15:37.45.
For the girls, Vernon Hills (5th) an Deerfield (6th) will compete at state.
Anna Todd took 10th for the Cougars.
VOLLEYBALL
Advancing to sectional semifinals were:
-Glenbrook South defeated Buffalo Grove for 4A for a regional title. They play Libertyville at Warren Monday night.
-Niles West defeated Fremd for a 4A regional title. They play Loyola Academy Monday night.
-New Trier beat Schaumburg for a 4A regional title and will face Lake Park at Fremd on Monday.
-Vernon Hills defeated Carmel and Deerfield downed Grayslake Central to set up an all-CSL sectional semifinal between the pair set for Monday night at Vernon Hills.
SOCCER
The New Trier Trevians are the last CSL team standing, having beaten Lane Tech 2-0 in the sectional title game.
Grayslake Central ended Vernon Hills’ season with a 1-0 win over the Cougars.
SWIM & DIVE
CSL South
New Trier won the CSL South title with 491 points.

Tierney Lenahan was on the winning 200 Y Medley Relay, 400 Y Freestyle Relay, won the 100 Y Backstroke and 100 Y Freestyle.
Charlize Escasa was on the winning 200 Y Medley Relay, 300 Y Freestyle Relay won the 50 Y Freestyle, and 100 Y Breaststroke. Escasa was named the CSL Varsity Player Of The Week.
Glenbrook South’s Jacki Stadler scored a 394.15 on the 1M dive to win the meet and Lauren Vuong won the 100 Y Butterfly.

Deerfield won the CSL North meet and shared the overall conference title with Highland Park.
Winning multiple golds for the Warriors on Saturday at the championship meet were:
