CSL Varsity: Girls Track Highlights; Wolves Tennis Wins Home Invite
GBN badminton takes title at York, grad-catch-ups at local JUCO Baseball programs.

Here were the Player and Team of the Week honorees for March 27-April 1.
OF NOTE
#CSLStar athletes for the past week:
4-3 — Chloe Beach, Glenbrook South girls soccer, 2 goals, 2 assists in a 5-2 win over Warren.
4-4 — Nick Tiesi, GBS boys water polo team had 18 saves in a win over Niles West
Alex Ash, GBS boys gymnastics team won all-around vs. GBN with a score of 45.20. He won 4 events in all (pbar, hbar, vault, rings)
4-8 — Gabriela Manzano, New Trier girls track and field, won the triple jump (10.99m), long jump (5.05m), was on the 1st place 4x200 and took 4th in the 200m at Metea Valley’s meet.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELDÂ
Glenbrook North placed 3rd at its home meet, besting other CSL squads Highland Park (5th) and Deerfield (6th) in a 7-team field.Â
Juliet Frum took 1st in the 1600 and was in the 2nd place 4x800.
Nylah Madden brought home 2nd in the long jump (4.81m).
The Spartans won the shuttle hurdle a time of 1:18.43, the team made up of Felicia Hollenberg, Caitlin Ciancanelli, Nola Fagin and Gabriella D’Agar.
Deerfield’s Isabella Carpenter won the discus (29.77m) and earned 2nd in the shot put (8.25m).
Highland Park’s Sophia Lebedz tied for 1st in the high jump (4-10).Â
Glenbrook South secured 6th place out of 9 times at the Prospect Relays.Â
Audrey Walch was 2nd in the 100 hurdles (16.33sec) and 300 hurdles (48.86).
Freshman Katie Willits grabbed 4th in the high jump and 5th in the long jump.
Maine East competed at Buffalo Grove, with Amina Hadziahmet’s 3rd-place 300m hurdles in 51.84 seconds bringing the Blue Demons their top spot of the day.Â
New Trier took 2nd at Metea Valley’s Girls Mustang Invite, led by a triple-gold finish by Gabriela Manzano in the long jump, triple jump and 4x200 meters, as mentioned above in #CSLStar.

New Trier won the Schaumburg Boys Mikias Tibebu Invite with 136 team points to runner-up Schaumburg’s 122. Maine South took 5th and Glenbrook South was 5th

BOYS TENNISÂ

Maine South’s Nikita Stoyyanov was 2nd at 1st singles at the Rolling Meadows Invitational. Giona Macafferi and Jack Hartung were 2nd at No. 1 doubles.Â
Highland Park bested Libertyville, Hersey (7-0) and Evanston (5-2) this week and lost to Latin.Â
Vernon Hills defeated Wauconda 6-1.Â
GIRLS LACROSSE
New Trier’s Audrey Rudolph was named USA LaxMagazine Midwest Player of the Week.
BOYS LACROSSE
Glenbrook South played defending state runner-up Lake Forest to a 9-7 loss and also beat Glenbrook North 8-6 doing the week.Â
New Trier beat Maine South 16-8.Â
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Vernon Hills earned 2nd at the Niles West tournament for the second season in a row. The Cougars are now 10-3 with CSL play set to ramp up.
New Trier took 3rd at the Warren Invite and GBS was 5th. The Titans only lost to New Trier, going 4-1. James Ganzorig totaled 131 assists and 19 digs for the Titans. Chance Shampine had 54 kills, 21 digs.Â
SOFTBALL
Glenbrook North and Vernon Hills got weird this past weekend. The Spartans won the CSL Crossover doubleheader by scores of 13-11 and 18-16.Â
Ryan Mullarkey has a pair of home runs for 2-2 Maine South.
Maine West’s Kara Lindenmuth cracked 4 hits, had 4 RBIs and contributed 2 doubles in a 12-6 loss to Prospect.Â
The Warriors’ Kaitlyn Marsh picked up a victory in the circle in a 5-2 defeat of Niles West and Abi Garcia walloped a homer.
BASEBALL
Maine East’s Andrew Isho tossed 4 1/3 innings of 1-hit, 4K, 2-run ball in a 9-4 victory vs. Elmwood Park.Â
Wolfgang Gustaveson had 2 RBIs, while Andrew Merza, Jalen Moraga and Vasilios Memmos each belted 2 base hits apiece.Â
Spencer Geake had 3 hits and freshman Ethan Bass smacked a homer in a 14-3 Glenbrook North win over Lake Forest.Â
BOYS WATER POLO
New Trier has started 7-3 and defeated Maine South 15-7 this past week.
Maine South notched a 20-7 win vs. GBS this week.Â
Deerfield avenged an earlier loss to GBN with a win this past week, also defeating Vernon Hills, Conant, Brother Rice and Prospect during the week.Â
GIRLS WATER POLO
New Trier has been handling its CSL competition and playing some of the best teams in the state competitivelyÂ
Niles West sits at 13-3 per MaxPreps.
BOYS GYMNASTICSÂ
Glenbrook South won the Bob Bohl Varsity Invite, Maine East was 3rd, Niles West took 34th, GBN was 6th and Niles North finished 8th.Â
GBS’ Alex Ash and David Kim took 5th and 6th, respectively with scores of 45.55 and 42.80.

Niles West is 5-2 after wins over Niles North (3-0) and Maine East (6-0) this past week.Â
Kiki Patton scored twice in a 3-2 GBS win over Maine West and Chloe Beach had 2 goals, 2 assists in a 5-2 win over Warren.Â
Evanston’s Lily Shure netted 2 goals in a 3-2 Wildkits victory over Naperville North.Â
GIRLS BADMINTON
Vernon Hills beat Maine East 18-0.
Glenbrook North defeated Glenbrook South 15-3.Â
Niles North took 3rd at the Maine East Invite.
Glenbrook North won the York Invite.
RECORD ALERT
Niles West sophomore Manny Olojo threw 46.70 meters in the dscus to take 2nd at the Wolves’ home Gans Zeedyk Invite. It’s the third-longest mark recorded for the program on Athletic.net. The record for the Wolves per Athletic.net is 162-0 from Dennis Gargovic in 2014.
GRAD CATCH-UPS
Evanston grad Lance Jones, a standout with SIU men’s basketball the past few years, will transfer to Purdue.
Vernon Hills grad Sammy Addison was part of a Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association regular season title with Ball State men’s volleyball. He has played in 57 sets this season and has 41 digs.Â
Vernon Hills graduate Joey Wiczeb, a pitcher for McHenry County College pitched 7 innings and struck out 8 in a recent win over Highland.Â
Deerfield grad Matthew Dworsky is doing work for Oakton Community College baseball.
