CSL Varsity: IHSA 2-Year Cycle Enrollments Out, and How They Affect the CSL
Deerfield, Vernon Hills most affected.
The IHSA released its classification changes for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons.
For the two-year cycle, here’s where CSL schools stand.

New Trier is the 7th largest school in the state for enrollment, Evanston is 10th and Glenbrook South is 20th.
With Vernon Hills sitting at 1511.45 students in the classification, it figures to be once against one of the biggest school in a number of sports.
One example of how the classification changes affect CSL programs; The cutoff for cross country for Class 3A went from being 1,665.01 and above to 1,470.01 and above, moving both Deerfield and Vernon Hills, upward a class to 3A.
Girls Volleyball and boys soccer’s cutoff from 2A to 3A is 1511.46, so the Cougars figure to be the biggest 2A team in the state in both classes.
Boys wrestling’s 2A to 3A cutoff is 1,661, meaning if these numbers hold, Deerfield would be one of the largest 2A programs in the state as they sit at 1,654.6.
Winter and Spring classifications will be completed following their respective upcoming seasons.
