CSL Varsity: Program Records for Vikings Soccer, Cougars Volleyball; Liu Wins POTW
Vernon Hills' Boehmer is football fan vote winner
Taking home CSL Varsity Player Of The Week honors is New Trier’s dominant sectionals singles tennis champion Madison Liu. The Trevians junior is the first tennis player to win the POTW honor.
Football
Vernon Hills lit up the scoreboard for the second consecutive week, blasting Highland Park 50-34 in a game it led 50-13 at one point. Eric Boehmer had 7 catches for 153 yards and a TD, and threw a TD pass to quarterback Nolan Lazor as well. He has a team-high 45 receptions and 601 yards through the air The Cougars had 216 passing yards and 249 rushing. Ben Choi ran for 125 and had 2 TDs. Highland Park must win against Maine West to be playoff-eligible.
Böehmer was voted Football Fan Vote Player of the Week with 40% of the Twitter poll vote out of 242 votes. Maine West’s Isaac Pittman was second at 39%.
Maine West handled Niles North 49-0. The Warriors become playoff-eligible if they defeat Highland Park next week. Isaac Pittman scored 2 TDs and Szymon Grum returned a fumble for a touchdown.
Maine South’s defense held strong in a 28-7 victory over Evanston.
Glenbrook South took care of rivals Glenbrook North 41-6. Hank Leahy and Chuck Gottfred combined for 229 rush yards and 5 TDs. Leahy and Gottfred each recorded a defensive interception and Leahy had 2 fumble recoveries. Patrick Downing had 3 TFL for the Spartans.
New Trier maintained its winning record in CSL play with a 34-14 win against Niles West. The Trevians must defeat Glenbrook South to become playoff-eligible.
Deerfield downed Maine East 43-6 to gain playoff eligibility. The Warriors’ Vincent Sciarrone scored 5 TDs in the first quarter.

Player of the Week Madison Liu, a Trevians junior, did not lose a set over the course of wins over athletes from Evanston, Niles North and Loyola Academy and teammate Julia Ross of New Trier in the sectional final. Liu took 5th place in Class 2A singles last season.
ALSO, state qualifier and senior Julia Ross committed to Bowdoin College for tennis.

VOLLEYBALL
Vernon Hills set a program-record when it recorded a victory against Deerfield last week. The victory was the Cougars’ 25th as VH moved to 8-0 in the CSL North.
Per MaxPreps, Glenbrook North’s Erica Nekritz has 244 kills. Iliana Balaskas has 309 assists. Brianna Owen has 176 kills.
SOCCER
I wrote a feature about Niles North grad and current Santa Clara Broncos forward Jesse Anamoo. This season’s Vikings team recently recorded its 18th win, a program record.
Maine South surged into high gear and bested Maine East 5-0 on Oct. 11.
SWIM & DIVE
Vernon Hills’ Jess DeLorm broke the school’s 6-dive record vs. Maine East this past week.
Deerfield’s Isabella Wilhelm took gold and silver in the 50 free and 100 free, respectively at Saturday’s DHS Girls Varsity Invite.
Niles West’s Marnie Howard earned 1st in the 1 Meter dive.
