CSL Varsity: Trevian Title Town; Koepke Going D1; Deerfield, Maine South Football In Control
State golf results and highlights included in this week's newsletter and New Trier wins home Trevian Relays.
The CSL has its first state champion of the fall sports season!
The New Trier boys golf team, led by the brother duo of Johnny and Alex Creamean, claimed a state title.
Junior Johnny Creamean shot a 146 (71-75) to claim a tiebreaker over Lake Forest’s Tadge Burke to win the individual title. Johnny takes home CSL Varsity Player of The Week honors.

Alex Creamean, a Trevian senior, shot a 148 (71-77) to tie for 7th.
Tyler Greenspahn, fresh off an individual sectional title, tied for 18th with 152 strokes. Noah Zyung tied for 33rd.
Glenbrook North’s Robby O’Regan shot a 149 to tie for 10th with teammate Jason Gordon, helping lead the Spartans to 3rd in the state with a team score of 609. Greshman Alex Lee took 30th and Eli Myers was 33rd.
Glenbrook South’s Nick Ventura and Connor O’Hara both shot a 154 to tie for 22nd and Chase Blanchard earned 27th for the Titans. The Titans took 5th as a unit with an overall score of 624.
Highland Park’s Alex Finger took home 13th (tie) with a 150.
Maine South’s Ryan Felz came in a tie for 40th.***

On the girls side, Glenbrook North’s cumulative team score of 633 helped them bring home a 3rd-place team trophy. Freshman Martha Kuwahara’s 147 (75-72) was good enough to tie her for 8th with teammate Kacie Moon. Alexis Myers tied for 33rd by shooting 155.
New Trier took 6th by carding a total of 624. Amy Beanblossom was 5th with a 145 (73-72).
Glenbrook South senior Effie Perkakis’ card of 144 (73-71) brought her 4th place.
Vernon Hills’ Lexi Schulman was an all-state medalist for the second time in her career with a 147 to tie the previously mentioned pair of Spartans in 8th (74-73). Teammate Anna Lee tied for 33rd.
FOOTBALL
Deerfield’s 13-7 win over Maine West established the Warriors firmly in the driver’s seat of the CSL North. Zach Chalmers had an 85-yard Pick-6 for Deerfield. Deerfield’s other touchdown came on a Mac Jones pass to Jack Berger. Ben Cooper had an interception for Maine West. (Details via Journal & Topics’ Dion Martorano.)
Highland Park smashed Maine East 47-6. David Finfer threw for 228 passing yards and 3 TDs and also had a rushing touchdown.
Evanston took care of business against Glenbrook North, winning 38-13 in Northbrook. Damarion Timberlake rushed for 140 yards and 2 scores.
Glenbrook South soiled New Trier’s Homecoming with a 24-7 win. The Titans’ balanced attack piled up 229 rushing yards and 190 passing. The GBS defense had 3 sacks and also intercepted New Trier thrice (Tyrone Cotton, Chuck Gottfred, Alex Papas). Miles Cremascoli had 174 receiving yards on 8 receptions for the Trevians.
Maine South rolled past Niles West 45-7 to stay unbeaten in CSL South play.
Vernon Hills got in the win column with a shellacking of Niles North, 42-0. Anthony Martorano ran for 152 rushing yards and 2 TDs and also returned an interception for a touchdown. Martorano won the Football Player of the Week Fan Vote.

New Trier claimed a CSL title once more. Highland Park took 2nd. Further results were unavailable.
VOLLEYBALL
Glenbrook South is now on an eight-match winning streak, during which they’ve only dropped 1 set (New Trier). The Titans are undefeated in the CSL South while New Trier has 1 conference loss (to GBS).
This past week, New Trier went 4-1.
Vernon Hills remains unbeaten in the CSL North.
Deerfield has won its last 3 matches against CSL foes.

SWIM & DIVE
New Trier won its home Trevian Relays.
The Trevians won the 200 Medley Relay, 100 Free and 100 Back (Tierney Lenahan) and 100 breast (Maggie Papanicholas).
Highland Park took 3rd at the Hersey’s Rob Lindgren Invite. Sydney Lewis (50 free, 100 fly) and Kayla Newman (200 free, 500 free) led the Giants.
Highland Park also defeated Maine West during the week 124-54. The Warriors’ Maya Biela won 2 events that day, the 200 free and 500 free.
SOCCER
Evanston defeated Vernon Hills 2-0 in the CSL Soccer Showcase between each division’s winner.
Niles North nabbed an impressive 3-1 win over Loyola Academy.

Former state champion and McDonald’s All-American Angela Dugalic, a Maine West graduate, tore her ACL and will miss the upcoming college basketball season.
Evanston graduate Daniel Linder won MIAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after making 4 saves in a win for Carleton College over St. Olaf. Linder has allowed 4 goals in 6 matches this season while making 28 saves.
Vernon Hills’ Noemi Ramirez, a 2022 grad, was inducted into the Vernon Hills High School Wall of Fame. She now plays lacrosse at Regis University.
