CSL Varsity: Trevians Make a Splash Again; Parkhe/Lenahan/Leyden Share POTW Honors; Football And Soccer All-Conference Honorees
New Trier wins state swim & dive championship, fall sports wrap up.
For the last week of fall sports, I’m having three players share CSL Varsity Newsletter Player of the Week honors.
New Trier’s Tierney Lenahan is a CSL Varsity Newsletter Player of theWeek after finishing top 2 in the state in 4 events at state swim & dive.

Deerfield’s Annika Parkhe broke a state record and won two events to help Deerfield to a strong team performance.
Finally, Maine South’s Ryan Leyden had quite the performance to cap the Hawks’ football season.
FOOTBALL
Maine South wrapped up its season in a 37-34 loss to Glenbard West at home.
Ryan Leyden’s career day of 397 yards passing on 19 of 24 attempts with 3 passing scores and a rushing TD was not enough. Sean Mullan had 7 catches for 212 yards and 2 TDs. Leyden is one of three to earn co-POTW.
The Hilltoppers used a ground game that totaled 286 yards rushing on 49 carries. The Hilltoppers utilized 2 onside kicks and 3 field goals from Marcello Diomede to get the win.

SWIM & DIVE
New Trier cut through the competition, winning a state swim & dive title for the 2nd consecutive year and 16th time overall.
Tierney Lenahan is a co-CSL Varsity Newsletter Player of the Week after winning the 200 Yard Medley, tying for first in the 100 Yard Backstroke, taking 2nd in the 100 Yard Freestyle (50.95) and was on the 2nd-place 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.

200 Yard Medley — Tierney Lenahan, Charlie Escasa, Zara Bolton, Megan Marquadt, final time of 1:41.96
100 Yard Backstroke - Tierney Lenahan, finals time of 55.09
Deerfield’s Annika Parkhe won a state championship with a 200 Yard Freestyle finals time of 1:45.60 and a 100 Yard Butterfly time of 52.13, a pool and state record of 52.13.
Parkhe was also .07 of a second off her 2021 IHSA record in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a winning time time of 1:45.60. For her efforts, she is a co-POTW.
The Warriors finished 7th as a team with 85 points.
Highland Park came in 12th. Its best finish came from Kayla Newman and her 3rd-place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle in 1:51.64.
Glenbrook South’s Jacki Stadler took 2nd in the state in the 1 Meter dive with a score of 450.80.

Glenbrook North’s Patrick Schaller, a 6-6, 215-pound tight end in the class of 2024 made a verbal commitment to Northwestern football. He’s one of the highest-rated recruits out of the CSL in recent years.

Glenbrook North great Jon Scheyer has started his head coaching career 2-0 at Duke with home wins over USC Upstate and Jacksonville by an average of 41.5 points.
Duke plays Kansas Monday night in a top 10 battle in the Champions Classic at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Evanston grad Anastasia Goncharova was one half of a doubles tennis title for the Utah Utes as the Jolene Watanabe Classic at UNLV this past weekend.
New Trier graduate and current Harvard guard Sam Silverstein is seeing an uptick in minutes early in his junior season and it’s paying off for both parties. He’s averaging 30 minutes per game, scoring 13 mpg and is shooting 13 of 19 from the floor with 5.3 rebounds per game.
