#CSLStar honorees for the past week were:
8-29 — Henrik Lundberg, Vernon Hills boys golf, 2-under 70 at Strawberry Creek CC.
8-30 — Charles Blackmer, Vernon Hills boys cross country, 3rd at Grant’s Art Campbell Lake County Invite.
8-31 — Constantine Coines, Maine South football, tallied 346 all-purpose yards per @michaelsobrien including a rushing touchdown and passing TD.
9-1 — Anthony Martorano, Vernon Hills football, 24 rushes, 159 yards, 2 TDs.
9-2 — Ben Crane, New Trier boys cross country, wins Hinsdale Central Red Devil Invite in 14:55.Â
FOOTBALL
Maine South’s defense locked up Warren in a 28-7 win. Constantine Coines accounted for nearly 350 yards. Coines had rushing scores of 25 and 50 and Michael Dellumo added touchdowns of 70 and 2 yards per Matt Now. Story about the game here from Dion Martorano.Â
Deerfield defeated Highland Park 21-16 in a tight, scrappy game. The Warriors’ Quinn Schimanski ran for 218 yards and a score, and caught 3 passes for 36 yards. The Giants’ David Finfer threw for 264 yards and ran for 64. The Record North Shore wrote about the game.
Shep Ratnow and Anthony Martorano both had huge games as Vernon Hills defeated Lakes 28-21. Story by Friday Night Drive here.
Maine East defeated Round Lake 15-12.
Maine West handed Waukegan a 49-0 loss.
Lake Zurich defeated Glenbrook South 16-3.
Evanston fell to Lincoln-Way Central 41-0.
GBN was defeated by Grant 21-14.Â
Niles North defeated Leyden 20-6 as C.J. Hood threw a TD pass and returned a punt for a score in the victory.Â
Niles West defeated Morton 41-0 and are outscoring opponents 83-13 thus far.Â
New Trier’s 24-10 victory over Yorkville featured Jackson McCarey going for 114 yards and 2 TDs.Â
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
At the Elk Grove Cross Country Invite, Maine East’s Luis Mendoza took 8th with a time of 16:14.20.Â
New Trier’s Ben Crane won the Hinsdale Central Red Devil Invite. New Trier took 2nd as a team, HP was 4th and Evanston was 5th.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Evanston was 10th as a team at Hinsdale Central, with Stella Davis taking 8th in 18:29.60.
Maine East’s Ashley Gaba finished 11th in 20.00.40 at the Elk Grove Cross Country Invite.Â
BOYS GOLFÂ
Low scores I found:
Noah Zyung posted a 69 as New Trier won BG Invite with a team score of 295. GBS was 2nd and GBN was 3rd. Zyungg also carded a 36 alongside Johnny Creamean in a 149-152 win over GBN.Â
The Trevians’ Peter McNeely shot a 35 at Wilmette Golf Course in a win over Loyola Academy.Â
Myles Wexler’s 39 led HP in a win over Maine East.Â
GIRLS GOLFÂ
GBN won the Conway Farms Invitational.Â
Low scores I saw:
Vernon Hills’ Anna Lee was medalist with a 37 in a home win over Niles West and medalist with a 35 at Salt Lake Golf Course in a victory over Maine West.Â
GIRLS TENNISÂ
The Hawks also defeated Evanston 9-1.

Deerfield’s Mason Greitens netted a hat trick in a 9-0 win over Antioch. Andrew Babos has a team-high 5 goals.

Maine South grabbed a good win over Hersey.

Vernon Hills graduate Ryan Mann scored a 2-yard rushing touchdown for Valparaiso in a 52-10 loss to Youngstown State. He mostly played special teams last season but is listed as a running back on the roster.Â
Mason McQuet, a 2017 graduate of New Trier made the USA Men’s national water polo team.
Maine South graduate Kevin Jarvis
was cut by the Buffalo Bills and then added to the team’s practice squad.
New Trier graduate Aidan Crawford has been the starting goalkeeper for Loyola University men’s soccer through each of 3 games. He has surrounded 2 total goals and has played over 240 of 270 minutes in the net thus far for the Ramblers.Â
