The CSL Varsity Athlete of the Week for the week of March 4-10 is: Avin Kamai of VH girls water polo. The freshman had 10 goals in first weekend of high school play. She won 49.2% of 502 votes.
The CSL Varsity Team of the Week for the week of March 4-10 is: New Trier boys basketball, which finished its season by taking 3rd in Class 4A and getting all-state honors for Christopher Kirkpatrick.

#CSLStar honorees from the past week:
3-11 — Lila Kontuly, Maine South girls soccer, 3 goals for the freshman in her first varsity game.
3-12 — David Finfer, Highland Park baseball, 2 homers including a grand slam in a 9-3 Giants win over Stevenson.
3-14 — Carissa Uy, Niles West girls track and field, won the triple jump (10.55m), long jump (5.45m), 50 meters (6.84) and was 2nd in the high jump (1.47m) at the CSL North indoor meet.
SOFTBALL
Glenbrook South softball freshman Addy Hurley tossed 6 innings of 13-strikeout ball in a 1-0 GBS loss to Loyola Academy.
Maine West’s Abi Garcia went 3 for 3 and knocked a homer over the fence in a season-opening 13-1 Maine West win over Wheeling. The Warriors have started 2-0 and have outscored opponents 22-5.
Maine South defeated Lane Tech 8-4 thanks in-part to homers from Jessica Hoffman and Ava Amelio.
Niles North has started 2-1, outscoring opponents 32-17. Amaya Kang has blasted 2 homers and freshman Lucy Hibicke has a .700 batting average (7 for 10, with 2 doubles and 5 RBIs) and has struck out 10 in 5 innings pitched.
BASEBALL
David Finfer blasted a grand slam and a 2-run homer in a 9-3 Highland Park victory over Stevenson to open the season. In the next game, the Giants defeated Hersey 5-2. The Giants then shut down Taft 10-0 thanks to a 5-inning, 5K, no-hit effort from Ben Lichtenfeld.
Niles North’s Jacob Titsworth struck out 12 and allowed 2 hits in a 3-0 Vikings victory over Zion-Benton.
Deerfield notched a notable 3-1 victory over traditional stronghold Mundelein. Jaden Rose hit a 2-run homer.
Evanston opened its season with an 8-5 win over Loyola Academy.
GIRLS SOCCER
Maine South’s Lily Kontuly, a freshman forward, had 2 hat tricks in her first three varsity soccer games.
Deerfield’s Emily Fox is now the program’s all-time goals scoring queen with 76 goals, crossing the record-breaking number in a 4-0 Warriors victory vs. Rolling Meadows.
Vernon Hills opened its season with a 3-0 victory vs. Prairie Ridge.
Evanston’s Alexandra Merriam recorded a hat trick in a 7-0 win over Niles West. The Wildkits’ Maddie Varela and Lucy Fredrickson each scored 2 goals apiece in a 5-0 Wildkits win over IC Catholic Prep.
Niles North’s Addison Lockerby scored 2 goals in a 5-0 Vikings win over Amundsen.
BOYS WATER POLO
New Trier defeated Evanston 15-4, Neuqua Valley 14-7, Fenwick 9-3, Stevenson 14-3 and lost to Naperville North 10-7
GIRLS WATER POLO
Evanston notched a big 7-1 win over New Trier. The Wilkdits won the Libertyville tourney by defeating Libertyville 8-2, Conant 10-3 and Prospect 11-3
Glenbrook North picked up a 9-6 win over district rival Glenbrook South.
BOYS LACROSSE
Highland Park started 2-0 with wins over Wheeling and Prospect after winning just 1 game a season ago.
Glenbrook North has begun the season 3-0 with tight wins over Lake Zurich (10-9), Hinsdale Central (4-2) and Antioch (9-6).
GIRLS LACROSSE
CSL teams are a combined 7-2 this season per MaxPreps, with the lone losses being out-of-state losses by New Trier against top-notch competition.
BADMINTON
Vernon Hills defeated Hersey 13-2. The Cougars also took 3rd out of 16 teams at Hinsdale South’s tournament.

Evanston graduate Lance Jones was named to the All Big Ten team as an honorable mention pick.

Evanston’s Rodrigo Salinas was 6th at 150 pounds and Ian Sims earned 4th at 285 at IWCOA fresh/soph state. Maine South’s Jake Colleran was 3rd at 132 and Brett Harman took 4th at 113. Deerfield’s Adrian Cohen was 6th at 126.
