CSLV: Girls Swim & Dive All-Americans; Passing of Chuck Schramm
9 CSL programs set for fall girls flag football; and several recent caching changes.
OF NOTE
Chuck Schramm, a Highland Park legend, died at the age of 89 on July 12.Â
A 1957 draft pick of the Boston Celtics after playing collegiate basketball at NIU and WIU, Schramm coached boys varsity basketball at Highland Park in the 60s and 70s, served a stint as the Giants varsity girls coach and also severed in several assistant and head roles in the College of Lake County Men’s and Women’s basketball programs. Schramm coached golf and softball at HP as well, leaving an indelible impact on the community.

Glenbrook South also experienced the loss of a longtime coach in John Sullivan
Error: the newsletter that went out Monday stated an incorrect fact about Niles North girls track and field. The coach remains Jimmie Hawthorne.
MOVERS AND SHAKERS
With girls flag football growing rapidly in Illinois, the sport is well on its way to becoming an official IHSA sport. The CSL will sport girls flag club teams at most schools this fall. Teams will be fielded at Deerfield, Evanston, Highland Park, Glenbrook North, Glenbrook South, Maine East, Maine South, Maine West and New Trier.
How about some inter-conference role-switching? Maine East graduate Amanda Mistretta, who had spent the last year as Blue Demons head coach, has become the Niles West head coach in the same role. Dion Martorano wrote about it here.
One of the CSL’s best athletes, Juliet Frum of Glenbrook North cross country and track, is transferring to a school (Mountain Vista) in Colorado, per Illinois HS XC/TF on Twitter. Frum was the state runner-up in cross country last season and holds the school record in the 1,600 and 800.Â
Niles North graduate Joe Heller, who spent the past 15 seasons at North Central College, has been named the new Elmhurst College baseball coach.
