The lone #CSLStar for the past week was shared between a pair of Spartans.
Aug. 10 — Martha Kuwahara and Alison Chung of GBN girls golf, tied for top medalist honors as GBN won Conant’s early bird event. Both shot a 74.
BOYS GOLF
Evanston sophomore Kieran Low shot a low score of 67 to help Evanston take 2nd at the Jones-Payton Varsity Invitational.
Vernon Hills’ Luunda Hayanhirvaa shot a 76 to lead his squad in a three-team competition at Veteran’s Memorial Golf Course.
GIRLS GOLF
Glenbrook North’s Alison Chung and Martha Kuwahara tied for 1st at the Conant Invite at Fox Run with matching scores of 74. The Spartans also went on to win the Prep Tour Showcase at Hickory Point, where Kuwahara and Alexis Myers each shot a 73 to tie for 3rd.
Evanston’s Mari Frigo shot a 39 in a 143-149 win over Regina Dominican.
Glenbrook South’s Sonam Konanahalli’s score of 77 led the Titans to a victory at the Knights Invite on Friday. GBS’ team score of 336 pushed it 17 strokes past runner-up St. Charles North. At the same event, Maine South’s Jessica Hoffman led her squad with an 88
.

Maine East has a new girls basketball coach that will be familiar in CSL circles. Lance Newman takes over the Blue Demons girls basketball program after having been an assistant coach at Evanston the last 2 seasons.
New Trier baseball’s Declan Spinner (2024) verbally committed to Southwest Tennessee.
Mo Raja, a Niles North grad and GBS baseball coach, played for Pakistan in the Lincoln Cup on Aug. 5, where Raja played on a team that played against Palestine.
Glenbrook North’s Owen Giannoulias hit a game-winning shot in an academic showcase game.
GRAD CATCHUPS
Maine East graduate Antoine Kelly was named the Texas Rangers’ Minor League Relief Pitcher of the Month for July while hurling for the Frisco RoughRiders. Per MILB.com’s Zach Bigley:
“Kelly was brilliant over July, not allowing an earned run over his 10 outings. He allowed just one unearned run in 11.1 innings while striking out 15 and walking two. He held opponents to a .171 batting average.”
The Chicago Bears waived Vernon Hills graduate Andre Szmyt (a kicker) and signed linebacker Barrington Wade, a Niles North graduate. Wade played a part in a fourth down stop vs. The Titans on Saturday.
