BOYS GYMNASTICS
At Niles West’s Burkel Invite, Deerfield, Glenbrook North, Evanston and Niles West went 4-5-6-7 in the team scores, respectively.
Jacob Potter’s 39.800 for 8th place in the all-around for Evanston left him tops among CSL performers at the meet.
BOYS BASKETBALL
New Trier took third in the state, sustaining a loss to Benet Academy in the state semis in Champaign, then handed a strong Downers Grove North squad a beating in the third-place game. The Trevians finished No. 3 in Michael O’Brien’s Super 25 rankings for the Chicago Sun-Times.
Earning Associated Press all-state honors were Jake Fiegen, with 2nd team honors in 4A and GBN’s Ryan Cohen with honorable mention honors in 4A.
Taking IBCA all-state honors were:
Jake Fiegen, NT, 2nd team in 4A
Josh Fridman, GBN, 2nd team in 4A
Ryan Cohen, GBN, 3rd team in 4A
Milan Raval, VH, Special Mention in 3A
BOYS WATER POLO
Glenbrook South went 1-2 over its first three games on Saturday, with the victory coming in 7-5 fashion over Conant. Deniz Kaptan had 3 goals and 3 steals in that victory and Alex Burstein added 4 goals in that win.
GIRLS INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
New Trier’s Gaby Manzano is the CSLV Fan Vote Player Of the Week after setting a new school indoor record in the triple jump with a mark of 11.04m. She was also second at the Huntley meet in the long jump with a mark of 17.00 meters.
Maine East hosted its James J. Garvey Invite, with Maine South taking home first with 116 points. Vernon Hills was 2nd (93), Maine West 3rd (46) ad Maine East 5th (19).
Highlighting one athlete from each CSL team at the meet:
Madison Thomas was 1st for VH in the 4x160 relay and 50-yard dash.
Maine South’s Madison Basquin won the long jump and triple jump and was 2nd in the high jump.
Maine West’s Jaclyn Riedl, a returning state medalist in the shot put, threw 12.09m to win handily.
Maine East’s Aminą Hadziahmetovic took 2nd in the 50y hurdles.
BOYS INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
New Trier sophomore Ben Crane ran a 9:25.20 to win the 3,200 at the Batavia Distance Madness Event.
Crane was named CSL Varsity Newsletter Player of The Week.
Vernon Hills won the Argo Invite with 130 team points, beating 2nd-place Crete-Monee comfortably.
Evanston won its home Dan Phillips Relays on Friday. Miles Granjean was a winner in the 55m hurdles, 4x200 and 4x400 relays.
Highland Park captured a home indoor victory over Deerfield in a home meet Saturday at HPHS, 77-46. HP swung a 1-2-3 finish between Nate Wehner, Barak Goldstein and Brian Hatoum.

New Trier boys track and field’s Tucker Anglemeyer now owns the school record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.19 seconds.
GRAD CATCH-UPS
Maine West grad Rachel Kent, a current IUPUI Jaguar, was named 1st team all-Horizon League and took home academic all-conference honors.
Per a release from IUPUI Athletics:
Kent was named to the All-League First Team after averaging 12.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game this season. The senior has become most versatile this season and is among the top in the Horizon League in several categories. She currently sits at number eight in the league in scoring, ninth in rebounding, sixth in three-point field goals per game (2.0), fifth in assists and 10th in blocked shots (0.7 per game). Kent scored a career-high 30 points against Oakland on January 22 and recorded four double-doubles this season.
Evanston graduate Jonathan Wilburn won a Division III triple jump national championship for Wisconsin-Oshkosh. It was his second national championship in the event.
Glenbrook South graduate Maddie Kapsimalis transferred from Drexel to Dayton for softball, as Dion Martorano pointed out on Twitter.
GBS grad Will King was named first team all-conference for Colby men’s basketball.
Glenbrook North graduate and Duke University head men’s basketball coach Jon Scheyer became the first person to win ACC Player of the Year and an ACC Tournament Championship.
Maine West graduate Milos Dugalic received an invite to the reese’s DIII All-Star Game.
DID YOU SEE?
The IHSA sanctioned Maine South football for using player(s) residing outside of its district. The Hawks forfeit their 2022 wins. They will also be on probation for the 2023 season.
Glenbrook South Class of 2023 boys soccer player Kevin Perez committed to North Park for men’s soccer.
Evanston’s Terrell Williams committed to Lakeland for football.
