GRAD CATCH-UPS
Maine South alum Peter Skoronski, a Northwestern offensive tackle, earned Walter Camp 1st team All-American honors.
I went to watch the DePaul at Loyola women’s basketball game Wednesday. It’s nice to get over to Gentile Arena, which is just over a 10-minute walk from my apartment in Rogers Park. The game wasn’t particularly good — The Blue Demons won 78-52 — Darrione Rogers (Lake Park grad) and Aneesah Morrow (Simeon grad) tore up the Ramblers. However, it was nice to see Niles West graduate Sam Galanopoulos.
The senior guard from Niles West has scored at least 11 points in each of her last three games, including a 15-point performance with 4 rebounds and 3 steals in a 57-54 home win over Bradley. She’s averaging 8.8 points and 2.9 rebounds Galanopoulos’ leadership will be critical as the Ramblers enter Atlantic 10 play for the first time.
Maine South graduate Fotis Kokosioulis has carved out quite the career at Fordham.
Against Ohio University this season (proud Bobcat alum over here) Kokosioulis had 320 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns on 13 receptions. He compiled a stat line of 1,312 yards on 103 catches and scored 14 touchdowns. He had 4 games of at least 12 receptions this season. For his career at Fordham (he was at NIU initially after his all-state career at Maine South), Kokosioulis had 2,994 receiving yards and 35 touchdowns on 229 receptions. He also averaged 24.4 yards per kick return this year (513 yards on 21 returns).
Can’t imagine this is the last time I’ll be writing about Kokosioulis.
