CSLV: Pair of State Golf Trophies for CSL; Tennis Champs Crowned

There’s plenty to be excited about in the CSL as the leaves change color, postseason sports get into full swing and state championships are crowned. Some changes may be coming to the newsletter soon as I take on a new opportunity that I can share about in the coming days.
GIRLS GOLF
 Glenbrook North claimed a Class 2A state championship with a 2-day score of 603 at Hickory Point Golf Club in Decatur. They were 2 strokes better than runner-up Hinsdale Central.
The 2-day scores that counted toward that 603 came from Kacie Moon (148), Laura Hu (150), Martha Kuwahara (152), and Alexis Myers (153).Â
Alison Chung added a 157 and Lindsey Huang shot a 173.Â
The Spartans get welcomed back to Northbrook.

BOYS GOLF

New Trier claimed a 2nd straight 3A title shooting a 297 on day 2, and 598 overall. Johnny Creamean finished 5th in the state with his 145. Boden Rice (149) tied for 6th and Noah Zyung (149) also tied for 6th. Connor Gray also factored into the team score with a 157.
Vernon Hills finished 11th in 3A as a team.Â

Maine East’s 20 points in a 35-20 loss to Niles North were its most in a game since its first game of 2017. The Demons’ Tim Kato has had 8 catches for 237 yards and 3 TDs over his last 2 games for the Blue Demons.Â

GIRLS SWIM & DIVE
New Trier finished 2nd at its home, 45th annual Trevian Relays going 2nd in the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay. Margaret Leitzau was 3rd in the 200 free in 1:56.80. Maeve O’Donnell took 3rd in the 100 free in 52.78.
Evanston edged Maine South 96-90, winning 4 of the last 5 events to take the meet.Â
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Deerfield went 5-0 to win the Lake Forest Invite, which included a win over CSL foe Highland Park. Makayla Weissenberg and Addison Hooker earned all-tournament.Â
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
New Trier earned 4th and Maine South came home with 6th at Loyola Academy’s Flight Night.
Josie Cahill grabbed 5th for the Trevians. Olivia DeLuca was 6th for the Hawks.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRYÂ
Highland Park was runner-up to Barrington at Loyola Academy’s flight night, led by a 3rd-place finish by the Giants’ Brian Hatoum. New Trier took 4th as a squad, led by Michael Moran in 17th.
BOYS SOCCER
Niles North knocked off GBN 5-2 in a CSL Crossover game between the North and South division champions, as the Vikings moved to 18-2.Â
Deerfield’s Nick Biank netted a pair of goals and Andrew Yang had 7 saves in a 4-0 win over Niles West.Â

GRAD CATCH-UPS
Maine South graduate Bobby Inserra set an Augustana College school record when he recorded his 125th career catch last Saturday. He is up to 20 catches for 206 yards ad a touchdown this season. Last season he had 63 catches for 829 yards and 8 TDs. A two-year captain, Inserra is the son of Maine South football coach Dave Inserra.Â

Evanston graduate Nadia Thorman-McKey, who most recently played collegiate basketball at Tuskegee after having played at Chicago State, signed a pro contract to play in Bosnia with ZKK RMU Banovici.
