PLAYER OF THE WEEK (Oct. 28-Nov. 3)
Maine South football sophomore quarterback Jameson Purcell is the Player of The Week after throwing for 465 yards and 6 TD passes in a 49-42 Hawks victory over Naperville North in the first round of the 8A postseason.Â

TEAM OF THE WEEK (Oct. 28-Nov. 3)
Vernon Hills girls swim & dive won the CSL North title at the conference meet.
CSL STANDOUTS
Glenbrook North girls volleyball’s Claire Dillon smashed 14 kills and totaled 10 digs in a 25-21, 26-24 regional final victory over Maine South. The Hawks’ Sofia Rossi finished her career with a bang in the loss, tallying 17 kills and 9 digs. Emma Lesch also had 10 digs for Maine South. The Spartans’ Lauren Choi and Courtney Owen combined for 26 assists.
New Trier’s Ben Crane set the course and Trevian record in boys cross country with a sectional-winning time of 14:14.10 at Busse Woods at Saturday’s Hoffman Estates sectional to propel the Trevians to a team sectional title.Â
Other notable top finishes came from Niles North’s Evan Parker (3rd), Dylan Dominguez of Highland Park (8th) and Jordan Kreiner of New Trier (19th).Â

New Trier’s Josie Cahill led the Trevians with an individual 5th-place, state-qualifying finish at the sectional in a time of 17:26.39. Evanston’s Stella Davis took 10th, Glenbrook North’s Nicole Golebiowski was 14th and the Trevians’ Kayla Ritchie was 16th.
GBN earned 5th as a squad and New Trier was 7th.

From the Lake Park sectional, Maine South’s girls team advanced to state thanks to finishes of 10th (Sofia Arcuri) and 14th (Tessie Bradley) as the Hawks took 6th as a squad. Full Results.
On the boys side, the Hawks’ Owynn Garrelts moves on to state after taking 10th. Full results.
New Trier girls swim & dive won the CSL South title. Meet records were swam by Maine South’s Sarah Juiris in the 200 free (1:51.62), New Trier’s Tierney Lenahan in the 200 IM (2:05.61) and the Trevians’ Olivia Safarikova in the 500 free (5:08.05).Â
The Trevians’ Shale Wozney won the dive with her score of 373.55. FULL RESULTS
Vernon Hills won the North division title for Swim & Dive. Emily Fraser of Highland Park set meet records in the 500 free (5:13.97) and 200 free (1:58.48).Â
The Cougars’ Sophia Kamarauli won 4 golds, including in the 100 back, 200 IM, 400 free relay and 200 free relay. FULL RESULTS.
PLAYOFF FOOTBALL
Maine South defeated Naperville North 49-42 and will host unbeaten West Aurora next.
Maine West fell to Lincoln Way-Central, 49-7. The Warriors’ season came to a conclusion with a record of 8-2.Â
Glenbrook South’s season came to an end with a 41-14 loss to Marist. The Titans finished 5-5.
Deerfield’s season ended with a 43-17 loss at Libertyville. The Warriors ended up 5-5.Â
GRAD CATCHUPS
New Trier graduate Nina Aceves won 3 of 5 matches in her first weekend of collegiate wrestling this past weekend for Iowa Lakes College.

Glenbrook North boys soccer, after defeating rival GBS 2-1 in the sectional semis, the Spartans fell in the sectional finals 3-1 to Hersey. Over GBN’s final 9 games of the season, the Spartans yielded just 5 total goals. GBN finished 15-4-4.Â
Of the 4 teams set to compete in the 4A girls volleyball sectional semifinals at New Trier on Tuesday, 3 are CSL squadrons.Â
Glenbrook North, which defeated Maine South in the regional finals, will face Loyola Academy.Â
New Trier (defeated Niles West) and Glenbrook South (beat Lane Tech), will square off in the sectional semis.
