CSLV: Spartans Champs Again!
New Trier's Kelly (Boys), GBN's Kuwahara (Girls) Win State Golf Titles.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK (Oct. 14-21)
New Trier boys golf’s Liam Kelly won the Class 3A boys golf individual state title by shooting a 71 on Day 1 and a 69 on Day 2 at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington. His performance helped New Trier to a 3rd-place team finish in Class 3A.
TEAM OF THE WEEK (Oct. 14-21)
Glenbrook North girls golf won a second consecutive state championship by shooting a team score of 585, a full 23 strokes better than runner-up Stevenson.
Martha Kuwahara won the individual title, shooting a 71 on Day 1 and a 68 (139) on Day 2. Teammate Alexis Myers was right behind, taking runner-up with a 141 (70-71). Kacie Moon also tied for 9th for the Spartans (148).

CSL STANDOUTSÂ
Evanston’s Kieran Low took runner-up at 3A boys golf state while brother Lester Low was 10th as the Wildkits earned runner-up honors at state with a 2-day team score of 588. Hinsdale Central, which also posted a 588, won by tiebreaker.
Liam Kelly’s state-winning performance, aided by Logan Keeter’s 5th-place individual finish, helped the Trevians to finish 3rd with 589 team strokes, 1 stroke back of tying for first.

Glenbrook South’s Kevin Schuh tied for 10th with a 2-day score of 147.
Deerfield’s Hunter Whitney finished 19th in 3A with a 2-day score of 150.Â
New Trier girls golf’s Grace Leber finished 8th in the state with a 2-day score of 147.
New Trier claimed the girls doubles and singles titles, while winning the team title at the Maine South girls tennis sectional.Â
Arianne Lesterhuis and Keri Rothenberg won the doubles title with Coco Zabel and Julia Ludwig taking a default loss in the final as the Trevians took the top 2 doubles spots. Linden Wadsworth and Mia Darer took home 3rd in doubles for Evanston.Â
The Trevians’ Ava Katz won the sectional singles title, with teammate Ingrid Feidler taking runner-up after defaulting the final. Niles West’s Emma Velimirovic defeated district foe Sofia Shethwala of Niles North 6-1, 6-0 to take 3rd.Â
Glenbrook North’s Katelyn Wu won the individual singles title at her team’s home tennis sectional, leading the Spartans to a team title and advancement to the state tournament. Wu won her matches 6-2/6-0, 6-0/6-0, a default win and 6-3/6-0 over Deerfield’s Elizabeth Gleyzer in the final. Highland Park’s Nadia Barbieri took 3rd.Â
Glenbrook South’s Sophia Denizov and Alexandra Papa earned a doubles sectional title. The pair defeated GBN’s Julie Kononets and Camille Dziewonska in the final 6-4/6-1. The 3rd place pairing was GBS’ Katya Denizov and Sarina Harjani.
New Trier’s Ben Crane was the CSL South champion in boys cross country, taking first overall in the race that featured runners from both divisons, finishing in 14:15.46. The Trevians won the South title and overall race. Niles North’s Evan Parker was the North division individual champ (2nd overall) in 14:27.61.
The Highland Park boys won their 3rd straight North title, with Lucas Hoobler earning 2nd in the North (15:15.66) and Henry Gamson earning 3rd (15:16.60).
Estella Ollinger of Vernon Hills (18:42.74) brought home a North division individual title as the Cougars won the North as a team. The Cougars’ Jori Ellen (18:43.47) took 2nd in the North.
In the South, Evanston’s Stella Davis was the individual champ (17:20.58) and Maine South’s Sofia Arcuri (17.20.64) was barely nipped at the finish and took 2nd.
Glenbrook North won the South after getting top 13 finishes from its top 5 runners, with Maria Polyakov pacing that group in 8th with a time of 18:22.79.

Evanston graduate Sebastian Cheeks had half a sack and 3 tackles in a Wisconsin Badgers football victory versus Northwestern.

Evanston girls flag football made it to the state quarterfinals where the Wildkits lost to eventual champs Fremd, 20-13. This came after Evanston pulled out a thrilling 14-12 win over Taft in the sectional final.Â
New Trier girls wrestler Jillian Giller will wrestle next season at Illinois Wesleyan.Â
