OF NOTEÂ
I’m still looking for full all-conference teams for most of the CSL’s spring sports. Please send to kalebcarter4256@gmail.com.
Look out for some calls to action from the newsletter and via emails to highlight some summer happenings with CSL athletes. Looking for some anecdotes and answers to prompts to throw in some newsletters here and there over the next few months.
TREVIANS OWN ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER
A big congrats to New Trier’s girls soccer team on winning the 3A state championship 5-4 in penalty kicks after a 2-2 regulation finish that saw a goal scored for each side in OT.Â
This marks 7 titles in girls program history following up on the boys title in the fall. The Record North Shore covered the leadup to the final and the championship run in-full. Check it out.
Also, here are some of Rob Lange’s photos from the semifinal.
Coach Jim Burnside, who recently become the state’s winningest coach in the sport when he won his 609th game (finished the season with 611), has been at the helm for all 7 titles.
The Trevians downed Edwardsville 2-1 in the semis to reach the title game. They surrendered just 6 regulation goals during the season.Â
At one point, the Trevians had recorded 17 consecutive shoutouts dating back to a 0-0 tie with GBN on April 16, something Coughlin pointed out in writing about defender Clara Deliduka.Â
New Trier concluded its golden campaign with a record of 25-2-5.Â
GLENBROOK NORTH LAST STANDING IN BASEBALL
The Spartans knocked off Evanston 2-1 in the sectional final to win its first such trophy since 2011. The Spartans then dropped a 6-1 game to Conant in the 4A super-sectional at Wintrust Field in Schaumburg.
Evanston had to defeat New Trier 6-1 and end the Trevians’ 30-game win streak to reach that sectional final. Retiring New Trier coach Mike Napoleon finishes his illustrious career with 1,000 wins. He finishes 1000-369-5 between NT, Niles Notre Dame and Providence Catholic.Â
Deerfield had lost to Crystal Lake Central 6-2 after an impressive sectional final run that included a sectional semis win over Crystal Lake South, 6-3.Â
DID YOU SEE?
Evanston’s girls lacrosse team fell to eventual state champion Loyola Academy 21-6 in the super-sectional.Â
