BASEBALL
These quotes were my favorite from that day.
“Well there’s a certain amount of books I want to read before next school year. I’m going on vacation to Italy with my parents, that I think will be pretty fun. I suppose that’s not an accomplishment. I want to retain my relationship with my girlfriend through the summer and I want to throw 3 miles per hour harder than I do right now,” -Beau McBride
“Summer ball helps us to connect more. Not all of us play summer ball or can go every day, but to get together, have time spent with each other, time to connect,” - Jacob Berliant
Maine West’s Charlie Parcell was named the Daily Herald’s All-Area Captain after an outstanding season in which he hit .570 with an OBP of .660., 47 has, 25 runs and 18 stolen bases. He also owned an 8-0 record with a 1.04 ERA with 89 strikeouts in 53 innings (stats per Daily Herald). He’ll play baseball at Northern Illinois.
Something I didn’t note in the CSL South All-Conference baseball teams from last week was that GBN’s Spencer Geake was the CSL South’s Player of the Year, hitting .409 with 52 hits and 42 RBIs.
Josh DeLuca and friend of the CSLV Newsletter Dion Martorano of Journal & Topics Media compiled some of the statistical leaders for his coverage area, which includes approximately 30 schools, including CSL programs Glenbrook South, Maine East, Maine South, Maine West and Niles West.
A few of the stats that stood out to me:
Charlie Parcell, Maine West, .566 batting average (opposed to .570 per the Daily Herald, 5 triples and struck out 89 on the mound.
Joe Ward, Maine South, owned a 0.66 ERA
Jason Ban, Glenbrook South, 1.51 ERA and 75 strikeouts.
Brad Crawford, Glenbrook South, 1.65 ERA
Drew Koenen, Maine South, 68 strikeouts.
Mike Clark wrote this about Kerry Wood coaching his son Justin at New Trier.

Longtime Evanston girls track and field assistant coach Jesse Sibert passed away on June 9. He was part of a coaching staff that won 7 girls team state championships. (Below photo via Evanston Athletics Twitter)
From Evanston football assistant coach Brent Nance on Twitter:
“With everything this man was going through personally, he was still out there coaching THIS SEASON. Much respect to Coach Sibert, you were built different. RIP Coach.”
Glenbrook North’s Owen Giannoulias knocked down a buzzer-beater in a summer game on Saturday (LINK).
