Notes And Photos: Glenbrook North Girls Hoopers Defeat Lane Tech
Spartans post big fourth quarter to take down Lane Tech.
Glenbrook North has a very young group. I wasn’t aware of just how young before watching them in Monday’s regional semifinal game between the Spartans and the Lane Tech Champions. The Spartans won 52-42 after outscoring Lane Tech 23-14 in the fourth.
In reaching 20 wins, which their Twitter said was a school record, the Spartans appear to have experienced some growing pains. I couldn’t confirm that fact, but the most wins GBN had listed on the IHSA archives was 19. A 3-7 CSL South record isn’t all that bad, and the Spartans did notch wins over Evanston and New Trier this season. Couple that with literal pains, as several players had fingers, wrists, hands and lower body parts visibly taped up on Monday.
Sophomore Jami De Guzman, all 5 foot, 2 inches of her, has one of the purest shooting strokes I’ve seen. She shot lights out with a wrist wrap/gauze applied o her shooting hand and had a game-high 18 points despite beind remoed from the game multiple times due to a bloodied hand.
Senior Kate Leverez scored 6 Monday.
