Senior Ashland Henson uses powerlifting background for success.

Even after a day where the Evanston girls wrestling team went 0-3, Ashland Henson has plenty to be excited about. 

The senior, wrestling at 190 pounds, took 2 of 3 matches in Evanston’s Mega Duels Saturday at Willie May Fieldhouse. 

In her second year of wrestling, Henson is using her strength background to her advantage. 

“I powerlifted. I still do, but at the time I was primarily powerlifting,” Henson said. “Then I had a friend who has graduated now, but she was on the wrestling team and she told me I could use my strength in the sport so I just tried it out and I really liked it.”
