Q&A Spotlight: Maine South Hurler Bergeron Commits to Pitch at Stout
Pitcher keeps hitters off balance with her Riseball, offspeed-pitches and changing batters' eye level.
Maine South Class of 2023 hurler Samantha Bergeron has been part of quite the pitching duo the last few years between her and now Wisconsin-Green Bay freshman Kaylin Fahy. Bergeron, a recent Wisconsin-Stout commit, figures to finally take the top spot in the rotation. I’ve seen Bergeron pitch, shutting down a strong Prospect team and taking a no-hitter into the 6th inning of a May 2021 game I covered for Journal & Topics Media Group.
CSLV: How Does it feel to have a college decision made well before varsity softball season?
SB: “It feels great! It is a huge weight off my shoulders.”
CSLV: How long have you wanted to play college softball?
SB: “I have wanted to play college softball ever since I was 12 when I saw it being played on TV.”
CSLV: Who are some of your favorite softball players and overall athletes?
SB: “My favorite softball players are mostly pitchers because I am a pitcher. Jennie Finch, Kelly Barnhill, Montana Fouts, Cat Osterman and (Rachel) Garcia.”
CSLV: What are some of your favorite memories as part of Maine South softball thus far in your career?
SB: “Some of my favorite memories as part of Maine South softball are being able to win a regional championship the past two years and continuing to work toward a state title. I enjoy playing at Maine South with a lot of talented players who are also my friends on and off the field.”
CSLV: What did the Stout coaches like about your game and what do you hope to accomplish there?
SB: “The coaches at Stout liked the way I compete against all of the batters that I am facing. I hope to be a big part of making their program better and to hopefully make it to a national championship.”
CSLV: Aside from a bigger championship, what are your biggest goals for the upcoming season?
SB: “Some of my biggest goals for this upcoming season are to play as many games as possible and to help my teammates as much as I can on and off the field and to get myself prepared as possible to play at the next level.”
CSLV: If you could end up having a specific career after college, what would you want to do?
SB: “I want to become a physical therapist so I can work with athletes who are injured and help them get back to their sport. I also want to start involved in softball and I am interested in coaching as well, especially younger pitchers.”
