Senior Spotlight: Maine West's Jaclyn Riedl
3-sport star optimistic for college volleyball future
A three-sport athlete in basketball, volleyball and track and field, the Maine West senior is an imposing physical presence at 6 feet tall on the playing surface of her choosing. A rebounding stalwart for the Warriors basketball team, a thunderously-smashing outside hitter for volleyball and a strong thrower for the track and field team, Riedl has been among Maine West’s better contributors in each sport for most of her time in high school.
As a senior this past year, Riedl averaged 4.1 kills per set (316 total) for the Warrior volleyball team, had 234 digs, 42 aces and 25 blocks.
She was the CSL North Player of the Year in girls basketball in the covid-shortened 2021 season as a sophomore.
In track and field, she took 5th in the shot put at the Class 3A state meet this past spring and 8th in the discus.
CSLV: What’s this environment like playing in a college floor, a different environment?
JR: “It’s always good to play in a different gym. It’s actually really fun to play at a college and not just a regular high school. It brings a little more excitement to the game.”
CSLV: How is the season going?
JR: “It’s going alright. I mean, I think our team always goes 100%… Always gives effort. We’re always trying to work together and play as hard and we can. Most of the games have been pretty close against some pretty good teams.”
